Tax Regime
Notes

Concession (royalty/tax) regime. Hydrocarbon exploration and production rights are granted by the government as concessions under the Mining Act, with a concession fee on production value and corporate income tax (temporarily raised from 19% to 22% for 2024–2028). The only material project, Ascent Resources' Petišovci tight gas field, was held up for years by environmental permitting disputes, leading to investment treaty arbitration against Slovenia, which shows the main risk of the regime.

Operational
Climate

Slovenia is a stable EU and eurozone member under Prime Minister Robert Golob, with parliamentary elections due in 2026. US and UK guidance cite EU regulation and a skilled workforce, but note bureaucracy and high labour taxes. Slovenia has negligible gas production. The Krško nuclear plant (co-owned with Croatia) supplies about a third of its electricity, and a second unit is being studied.
