No active upstream regime. The Petroleum Act 1970 provides for exploration licences, but no acreage is currently licensed and there has been no drilling. Rights in the Joint Management Area on the Mascarene Plateau are shared with Seychelles under a 2012 treaty, and any award would be on negotiated terms with standard corporate income tax.
Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam's coalition won a landslide in November 2024, and the UK–Mauritius treaty transferring sovereignty over the Chagos Islands was signed in 2025. US and UK guidance describe a stable, well-regulated international financial centre, while noting fiscal pressures and the review of revised public finance data. There are no hydrocarbon resources; Mauritius imports fuel and coal for power and is expanding solar.
